Strawberry builds city resort with rooftop spa in Marievik – opening 2029
Scandiweekends redaktion · 6 October 2026
Strawberry will operate a new destination hotel in Marievik by Årstaviken, just southwest of central Stockholm. With 191 rooms, a rooftop spa, and Liljeholmsbadet as an extension, it will become a city resort – opening in the summer of 2029.
Marievik in Liljeholmen has long been an office area that empties when the workday ends. Now the district will come to life in the evenings and on weekends, and a new hotel is one of the key pieces. The property owner AMF Fastigheter has chosen Strawberry, Petter Stordalen's hotel group, as the operator for the destination hotel, which opens in the summer of 2029.
The building is designed by the French architect Manuelle Gautrand and is expected to become a new landmark for Stockholm, according to AMF Fastigheter. The hotel will have 191 rooms covering a total of about 11,500 square meters, including a breakfast restaurant, lobby and lounge, gym, meeting and event spaces, and a restaurant on the roof.
Rooftop spa and sauna by the water
What makes the hotel interesting for a weekend is that it focuses on two completely different types of recovery. On the roof, there will be a spa, and down by Årstaviken, Liljeholmsbadet will be an extension of the hotel with sauna rituals and cold dips. AMF Fastigheter and Strawberry are revitalizing the bath together, and it will remain open to the public.
Liljeholmsbadet opens already in the summer of 2028, a year before the hotel. Strawberry describes the whole as a city resort rather than a regular city hotel – a place where one can stay the whole weekend without needing to leave the area.
A district in change
Marievik is located by Årstaviken with Södermalm on the other side of the water and the subway at Liljeholmen. AMF Fastigheter owns all nine commercial properties in the area, and when everything is completed, there will be around 14,000 workplaces and 900 new homes, which JM and Klövern are building in parallel.
Some parts of the transformation are already visible. The area has received a new quay bath, the meeting place Plåtparken, and the live music venue Selam, with several new restaurants opening in the spring of 2027. Festivals are organized along the quay every year, and a DJ performance under the Liljeholmsbron in September attracted 5,000 people.
What it means for a weekend
Most of Stockholm's hotel offerings are located in the city center and Östermalm. Marievik will be an alternative for those who want to stay by the water, with Södermalm's restaurants and bars a walk away over the Liljeholmsbron and a short subway ride into the center. Until 2029, the hotel is still a design, and how well the city resort delivers on its promises will be seen when the doors open.
The bath will come first. Liljeholmsbadet is worth a visit already in the summer of 2028 – and from 2029, rooftop spa, cold baths, and Södermalm can be included in the same city weekend.
