Bjertorp Castle

Bjertorp Castle is located on the Varaslätten in Västergötland, a short detour from E20 and about a hundred kilometers from Gothenburg. The castle was completed in 1914 and is considered Sweden's youngest Jugendstyle castle. It was designed by Ferdinand Boberg – the architect behind, among other things, Rosenbad and NK in Stockholm – for Knut Henrik Littorin, who had free hands and an unlimited budget to build in Swedish marble and oak, Bohuslän granite and limestone from Falköping.

The hotel rooms are personally decorated and each has its own connection to the castle's history. The restaurant is mentioned year after year in the White Guide and is based on ingredients from the products of the plain, with wines from the castle's own wine cellar – and those who wish can book an eight-course gourmet dinner. Right next to it is the Vara-Bjertorp Golf Club, which Golf Digest's readers have chosen as the best course in Västra Götaland, and on Saturdays during the fall, classic afternoon tea is served in the salons.

Bjertorp Castle is open year-round and is suitable for a romantic castle weekend focused on food – or a golf weekend on the plain. Christmas and New Year's are also celebrated here with fireworks in the castle park, and dogs are welcome.
